1/14/13

In Class:
Daily journal set-up.

Journal--  Respond to (explain, explore, agree, disagree, qualify, connect) the following quote: "Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one." -Benjamin Franklin

In response to statements regarding morality and government, students chose a place in the classroom demonstrating their level of agreement with the statement. One corner of the room was labeled "Agree," while the opposite corner was labeled "Disagree." We discussed certain specific issues regarding laws, government, and society. Agree/disagree statements included things like:
  • Polygamy should be legal.
  • Everyone should be legally required to wear a seatbelt.
  • Our government should protect us from threats from outside our country.
  • Our government should protect us from threats from within our country.
  • War is a necessary evil.
  • Security cameras are an invasion of privacy.
  • Everyone deserves fair access to education.
  • Government should ensure everyone’s access to education.
  • There should be age limits on alcohol, tobacco, and firearms.

Reviewed syllabus and class expectations (see separate blog entry).
